I found Lisbon very underrated,
much like Brussels. It's a beautiful city, and is unique in that it has very few
tall buildings. I've always loved cities that feature a castle or cathedral
offering a great view of the whole city and Lisbon was one of the best. It's a
very laid back city, one which has alot to offer, yet feels no need to try to
impress anyone - sort of a microcosm of Portugal itself. The seafood is good and
not too expensive, and there are little bars everywhere to stop, rest, and enjoy
an ice cold Sagres or Super Bock. There are several highlights, but chief among
them would be the Baixa district (sort of the main historic center), the Belem
Tower, the monastary, and the Castello (Castle) Sao Jorge overlooking the city.
The view from the Castello is magnificent. It gives you an idea of just how big
Lisbon is. It overlooks the Rio Tejo, which also adds to the view. Lisbon
is a European highlight for sure.
