While many people outside Europe have never heard of it, the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg is right in the middle of things on the continent. Indeed, the capital city has been called the most dramatically situated in all of Europe. The Altstadt (old town) of Luxembourg City sits high on cliffs surrounded by a deep river valley, and it's quite a sight to behold. It has a reputation as a tax shelter for banks (Luxembourg is the second richest country in the world after Leichtenstein) but it has alot more to offer. It's very small - 82K long and 57K wide - and has some beautiful countrysides, castles, and rivers. It's worth a look. You would never suspect that a city like Luxembourg City would have much in the way of nightlife, but you'd be surprised. There's a fine selection of pubs and music bars in the altstadt, and a few decent discos as well. And because it's right in the middle of France, Belgium, and Germany, the food there is pretty good too. I've been to Luxembourg a couple times and was never disappointed. A couple interesting facts about Luxembourg: 1. Luxembourg has the highest male life expectancy of any country in the world. 2. Luxembourg has the world's 4th smallest Armed Forces with roughly 750 members. 3. Luxembourg is the largest per-capita wine drinking country in the world. Click on picture to enlarge...
