Vicenza, the city where I currently find myself, is a beautifully historic city. It's the home of Andrea Palladio, one of the most famous architects of all time. His influence can be seen all over the Veneto region, however, Vicenza is considered a living museum to him. The Rotunda (second picture) was Thomas Jefferson's inspiration for Monticello. For those who have seen it, the Teatro Olimpico is amazing. Vicenza is a fantastic place to be stationed. Venice, Verona and Padova are all within about a half hours drive. Milan, Florence, Bologna, Genoa, and Cinque Terra are all within a 3-4 hour drive or less as well. The church at the top of Monte Berico: |
