Halfway between Mainz and Koblenz, right on the Rhine River, you'll find a spectacularly beautiful little wine town called Bacharach. It was recommended by Rick Steves, and it was one of my favorite places in all of Germany. Really, that particular stretch of the Rhine is dotted with several little wine villages, but Bacharach just happens to be my favorite. There's really nothing spectacular about it except for the view and the quaintness, for lack of a better word. Climb up to the small castle overlooking the village for the best view. Sit outside at the hotel Krannenturm and sip the Rhine wines that serves as the region's lifeblood. Go in the late spring and enjoy a bowl of fresh spargelcremesuppe. And don't thank me, thank Rick Steves...

Here's Virginia on one of the Rhine river cruises that you can take. They're alot of fun, you see a lot of castels, and because it's Germany, you can get beer on the boat!

Me and my buddy Paul Granneman ("Paulie G") on the boat:

Of course, this section of the Rhine is famous for some outstanding wine, probably the best in Germany. Unfortunately, it still doesn't hold a candle to Italian wine, but it's still fun to compare. Here's Virgina and I at a special wine tasting dinner, which we enjoy immensely (the picture came out blurry):
