IT'S A BOY!

Introducing Xavier Michelangelo Thibodeau, born to Rik and Virginia Thibodeau Sunday, December 14 at 10:05 am (CET) in Soave, Italy. He weighed in at exactly 3 kilos (6.6 pounds) and measured 49 cm (19.6 inches).

Mom is doing wonderful, resting comfortably. She started having pain and spotting Saturday afternoon/evening. At 0330, she woke me up with intense pain. We called Amee Baker, a good friend who is an obstetrician, and she said it sounds like something's going on, so we grabbed the bag and headed to the hospital. Virginia received the epidural around 0700 which calmed the pain quite a bit. At a little past 0800, the real labor started. At about 0915, when it was determined that the baby was on it's way out, they brought her into the delivery room - actually, they made her walk into the delivery room! Can you believe that?! Anyway, after much agony, the X Man finally arrived about 45 minutes later, at 1005 hrs. They cleaned him up and put him right on mom's chest. The next moment, for me, is best described by actor Dennis Quaid, commenting on the birth of his son:

"That was the greatest day of my life. I was there in the delivery room, and I was the first thing he saw when he opened his eyes. You always hear how wonderous that is, but it's not until it happens to you that you realize how deep that feeling is. And, suddenly, nothing else really matters."

I couldn't have said it any better.
